Supporting schools through Covid-19

As teachers ourselves, we understand how extraordinarily difficult this year has been for all schools. We have made some important changes to our mastery programmes this year to help support you in the months ahead.

We've recently run a series of webinars where there were opportunities to hear from other teachers and leaders on how they're supporting remote and blended learning using our programmes, and a chance to hear more about our approach to diagnosing gaps, planning interventions and consolidating learning.

Remote learning

We are contributors to Oak National Academy and our Mathematics Mastery curriculum programmes are completely aligned to the Oak curriculum.

There's an online video lesson on Oak for every Mathematics Mastery physical lesson, so you can be assured of continuity of learning whether at school or at home.

    Supporting great teaching

The Education Endowment Foundation have identified in their recent Covid-19 Support Guide for Schools that a sustained response will be required to negate the impact of school closures and that 'Great teaching is the most important lever schools have to improve outcomes for their pupils.'

At Ark Curriculum Plus, we’ve always believed that the teacher makes the difference and we’re committed to supporting ongoing teacher professional development.

On our new MyMastery digital learning platform, we have carefully divided a year’s worth of curriculum into easily accessible chunks of learning. We call these chunks Staging Posts. Each staging post covers approximately 2 weeks of learning, with all the curriculum planning, classroom resources and integrated professional development you’ll need to help you teach the next 8 – 12 hours of the curriculum.

    Free home learning resources

We've also provided a range of free resources, aimed at helping every student reconnect with their learning and creating a smooth transition between home and school in the event of local lockdowns.

Supporting parents with learning at home

We’re delighted to be working with Maths with Parents who provide resources for parents to ensure all children are effectively supported at home to reach their academic potential.

We have co-created a curriculum map to show how Maths with Parents can be used alongside the Mathematics Mastery curriculum.

Identifying and planning recovery for gaps in learning

Every child will have been affected by Covid-19 differently.

In all of our programmes, we have created amended programmes of study to help you understand the learning which has likely been missed due to the pandemic.

In our Mathematics Mastery Primary programme, our daily 10-15 minute maths meetings have been designed to consolidate key areas of mathematics and identify areas of the curriculum where pupils have forgotten key concepts or have misconceptions.

In our Mathematics Mastery Secondary programme, we partner with Eedi to provide diagnostic quizzes aligned to the programme, which can be a great way to identify gaps in learning or misconceptions for re-teaching.

You can then easily find the relevant lesson resources, as well as bite-size integrated professional development to help you prepare for reteaching content, on MyMastery

Workbooks to support KS3 reading and writing development

For every English lesson taught in school, there is an English Mastery workbook activity covering the same content and skills, using the same terminology, techniques and teaching approach. We have comprehensive workbooks suitable for in-school and home learning to support grammar and writing development as well as ‘Reading for pleasure’ activity booklets.

This means that even if some children are in school and others at home, you can be confident that all have the opportunity to learn well-timed key content and skills.
